I am an Adult School Teacher and I would like to thank you for your time in visiting my blog. The purpose of this blog is to inform people of the potential catastrophe that could take place on January 24, 2012, if the LAUSD Board Members decide to eliminate both the Adult Education Program and the Pre-K program. They need to understand that these two programs are the end caps of the K-12 system. With the Pre-K program, we are providing the next generation of young students with the opportunity to get a head start in their long academic endeavor. Studies have demonstrated that children who start in the Pre-k program do much better in school and are more likely to remain at grade level throughout their academic careers. It only makes sense to invest in our children's lives, as they will one day become leaders of this great nation. Now, on the flip side, Adult Education steps in where the K-12 system has had difficulties in ensuring that everyone successfully graduates from High School; in other words, it serves those thousands and thousands of students who "have fallen through the cracks."
From regular high school students in need of credit recovery, to students working to obtain their diplomas after life circumstance altered their ability to obtain it in four years, to English Language Learners, to immigrants working on their citizenship, to students wanting access to career programs now that community college tuition have skyrocketed, Los Angeles Unified School has the great opportunity to serve our communities by offering these free educational programs. We must fight to preserve these programs in place.
I've personally seen the difference that these free programs have made in the lives of my students when they come to me and share some of their personal success stories. Both programs work together to tighten the K-12 system and keep the entire educational wheel system intact. I urge you to please help us preserve this 150 year old Adult School Program for the sake of the children and the livelihoods of thousands of academic professionals who have been faithfully dedicating their entire lives to these programs. Furthermore, these programs have served as a means for them to support their very own families. As I said at the top of my blog, this would be a catastrophic decision that we must prevent. Thank you for standing with us!
Thank you for your support!
